I recently downloaded your video on Pentatonics and every time I use it, I get all kinds of hip lines and ideas.  It's great to be able to see a master player focussing on one idea or concept at a time - your chord voicings when you comp for yourself are also really useful to see on the video too.

I find there's not enough straight talking instructional material concerning modern sounding jazz guitar - your videos seem to be relevant and informative without being prescriptive which is a rare thing from what I've seen.

Keep up the good work!

I love Barry Greene's video lessons and approach to teaching. I have spent serious time with "Alone Together" and "It Could Happen to You" (really hip stuff) and still find things to work on every time I watch it. Barry is a serious player who also happens to be a great and friendly teacher. I love how Barry is bringing a real modern approach to jazz guitar and harmony, but he's still rooted in the tradition. If you've ever wondered what can I possibly still do with a jazz standard? Barry's got years of really hip stuff to work on and compared to how much other people charge, this is a steal. I highly recommend these lessons, and I've tried a bunch of the other online lessons and materials, this is really hip, modern stuff that you can actually use!

thanks,

Hey Barry,

Your lessons have truly been an inspiration! The concepts introduced in each lesson are presented in a clear and concise manner and are easily applicable to other tunes and musical situations. I find it particularly helpful that you focus both on harmonic and melodic ideas, sometimes even combining the two by using polyphonic lines that are just so great. I have purchased three lessons now and will continue to purchase more as long as you keep making them.

Besides being a great guitar player, Barry is also a great instructor. His concept of getting across musical ideas by taking a song and breaking it down is unparalleled. Whether it is discussing modal concepts as in Alone Together or diminished voicings in Have You Met Miss Jones, I find myself coming away from each lesson with a vast amount of knowledge.

Hey Barry, I just wanted to let you know I finished the two lessons I recently purchased from you: "I Hear a Rhapsody" and "So What".  So What is the single best lesson I've ever had on different approaches to playing over a static chord change. I finally understand now where the more advanced players are getting some of their ideas from. Additionally, I've known the tune I Hear A Rhapsody but never quite comprehended how the alternate changes were derived.  When I improvised I was ' in the ball park ' but really couldn't make all those changes.  Now I can.  I'm an older jazz player that has studied jazz guitar for more than 1/2 my life and your lessons are first rate. Even if I think I know everything about a tune you always manage to take it to the next level.  Keep them coming, I'm building up my Barry Greene lesson library!

 All the best,

Rob

Barry's lesson videos are so packed with info that will it keep me busy for a long.....time!  His demonstrations are inspiring as well.

He has a relaxed manner that makes it fun to pour a coffee and enjoy!  Beyond that he replied to my remarks and questions by email.
